Don't forget to add the following in there as well: Load "glx" -----Original Message----- From: Tim Hanson [mailto:tjhanson@home.com] Sent: Monday, April 09, 2001 3:16 AM To: crrey; suse-linux-e@suse.com Subject: Re: [SLE] How NOT to have problems with XFree4.0.2 glx and nVidia TNT2 crrey wrote:
Also, put Load "dbe" (double extensions), "dri","GLcore", and you might
put in load "xie", "pex5" "record". I am using SuSE 7.1. I have also changed the driver from "nv" to "nvidia". I am very please with the performance. Also give the root command, formally - switch2nv_glx - now - switch2nvidia_glx. Also, I some cases it may be best to reboot. Before you reboot remember to edit the XF86Config file, otherwise it can become a very large pain (I got stuck once - no X and no way out but to warm boot and fsck after). Hope this helps and isn't to redundant!
Remember Paul's Law: "You can't fall off the floor." Okay, you lost me. I _think_ what you said was to add these lines to
also the Modules Section of XF86config: Load "dbe" Load "dri" Load "GLcore" Load "xie" Load "pex5" Load "record" Right?

For the interested, there is an update to the nvidia drivers in the 7.1
to be found on nvidias website ( http://www.nvidia.com ) If you install it in textmode while the "Will now boot your computer" dialogue is showing ( in
package the
install phase ) then you can select glx/3D acceleration in the GUI selection, without worrying of crashing your computer.

Okay, that finally did the trick. I went to the nvidia website:
http://www.nvidia.com/Products/Drivers.nsf/Linux.html
and downloaded the three files:
NVIDIA_kernel-0.9-769.suse71.i386.rpm NVIDIA_GLX-0.9-769.suse71.i386.rpm README.suse71
They are specific to SuSE 7.0 vs. SuSE 7.1, and are toward the bottom of the page, under the Red Hat and Mandrake downloads. I made a short script out of the README file and installed the drivers. Finally, following the directions at the SuSe support site:
http://sdb.suse.de/sdb/en/html/wengel_glx_nv.html
I added the following line to my Modules section of /etc/X11/XF86Config :
Load "glx"
That came up with no hanging and no error messages.
