hey, along the lines of the 486 and NFS install threads which are currently being discussed, i have a 486 with a 3com ethernet card and was wondering if anyone knew how to get the MAC address of the card, i have done NFS install with tftpboot on some sparcs and they show the MAC address when you first turn on the machine, so how to find it on a i386 box?
it's reported with 'ifconfig' once you've got the driver installed. If you haven't installed Linux, you could boot with the SuSE install disks, going far enough to configure the network adapter, then switch to another console and run ifconfig to get the MAC. -- David Smith Tel: +44 (0)1454 462380 (direct) STMicroelectronics Fax: +44 (0)1454 617910 1000 Aztec West TINA (ST only): (065) 2380 Almondsbury Home: 01454 616963 BRISTOL Mobile: 07932 642724 BS32 4SQ Work Email: Dave.Smith@st.com Home Email: David.Smith@ds-electronics.co.uk
