Hi Group:
I want to upgrade my kernel from the current 2.2.16 to 2.4.3. I downloaded file "linux-2.4.3.tar.gz" from http://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/v2.4/ and I was wondering if someone could confirm the following: 1) is this the right file,
Yes.
2) is this the only file I need to properly upgrade my kernel, and
Yes, but make sure you are using modutils-2.4.2. There is a RPM available from SuSE.
3) would you recommend using an rpm (or some other kind of zipped format) because it will jive better with Suse 7.0?
There are no 2.4.3 kernel RPMs. If you want the latest, then you have to compile it yourself. The kernel has a README file that provides a lot of information regarding installation and troubleshooting. Good luck! - v -- Victor R.
