What about typing 'linux init=/bin/sh' at the LILO prompt? That should
skip all of SuSE's init scripts, and then you can edit /etc/rc.config (I
presume that's what you want to do?). Your root partition may have been
mounted as read-only, so you may have to remount it. Other than that
there shouldn't be any other problems.
