Thanks for the reply. Indeed I used yast2. I tried sax2 and it asked me if I wanted to instal XFree86 4.0 which I did. Then it gives me this error:

During installation of XFree86 4.0 te output did show some error on fnts, but it scrolled of my screen and now I'm not able to reproduce them.
Any tips on how to continue?

I guess you're getting this from yast2. If it is so, just leave yast2 without configuring X. Then from console run sax2 and give it a try to configure X.
This happened to me today, but not on a laptop.

b.t.w.: I'm yet a true newbie and I'm not ready to do the SuSe install without X and install that manually afterwards.... that's hy I choose SuSe.....
