I don't know why this is failing, but I cannot get configure to run for xemacs. I have never had this much of a problem with this in the several years I have been compiling this program. XEmacs is one of the first programs I ever compiled on a Unix box. This was before I ever installed a Linux system. I have tried to figure out what is missing by looking at the settings in the srpm for XEmacs. It is not clear to me what the problem is. Perhaps I failed to install some necessary package which is required. I have been able to compile XEmacs on every version of solaris since 2.5.1, and every release of SuSE since 5.1. I don't know what changed in 7.1 which is making this fail, but from my perspective this change is a break in the system. If anybody else has successfully compiled a recent XEmacs beta on 7.1 please let me know if you had to do anything special to get it to work. You can find a description of the error dump in a mail I recently posted wtih the heading *** PANIC *** The C compiler can no longer build working executables. Steve
