Sorry if the following has already been tried but I have come into the late. I couldn't get Quake 3 going on my nVidia Geforce when I used the RPM's from nVidia's site (I am using SuSE 7.0). The solution in the end was to download the source and build it, it now works correctly apart from some corruption when I boot into X, this resolves itself immediately I get the logon prompt. Originally I posted concerning replacing a Matrix Millinium II card with a Cardexpert nVidia TNT2 M64. I have done this with mixed results. Can anyone suggest the optimum video card which will support 3D acceleration (OpenGL?) and yet not cause problems I've seen such as: Matrix: no OpenGL, sometimes VC trashed and cannot be fixed with savetextmode/testmode solution. nVidia TNT2 M64: OpenGL works but VC trashed but can be fixed with savetextmode/textmode. quake/lsdoom/lxdoom no longer work. What I'm looking for is a video card which supports 3D acceleration and does more than just "sort of work". Or, is it too early in the development of XFree 4.0 development?
