I was trying to get my Linux laptop to connect to shares on a Window network.

Jethro, One thing I have failed to say on this is that you should make sure you have killed all smb related connections that may have been lost before you reboot. If they are not terminated they will cause the system to hang on the way down requiering the use of the on/off hardware control device. Steve
