Hi,
Maybe, this can help you. I'm still running 7.0, adsl with rp_pppoe. I assigned a fixed adress to eth0. I have an alcatel 1000 modem and wired to an PCethercard. So, gave an fixed adress to eth0 10.0.0.1 and no gateway. Eth1 is for internal family network. After that, just run roaring pinguin. Be sure to set correct ISP DNS. This is what I get doing ifconfig : cave:~ # ifconfig eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:50:BA:AF:36:3F inet addr:10.0.0.1 Bcast:10.255.255.255 Mask:255.0.0.0 inet6 addr: fe80::50:baaf:363f/10 Scope:Link inet6 addr: fe80::250:baff:feaf:363f/10 Scope:Link UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1 RX packets:3618727 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0 TX packets:4447476 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0 collisions:954 txqueuelen:100 Interrupt:10 Base address:0xdc00

If I click on the plug connector I get a instant connection symbol, but am still not connected to the internet. Kinternet under connection check states Defaultroute failure, Nameserver fail- ure: address lookup does not work.
Rick; when I use rp-pppoe version 2.8-1 to configure the adsl setup and to start adsl I get the following in var/messages

The nic eth0 is configured as I have in the past, no ip address, DHCP selected, card not active, nameserver set to earthlink.net, dns set to earthlink's three servers. On the hardware side, module 8139too is specified, the nic is a real teak(sp) 8139 card. This set-up has worked in the past on SuSE and other distro's. Orignally I was using SuSE's adsl config module in Yast2. Attempts to use Yast1 have ended with Yast1 aborting with no errors. So I am staying away for it. Not sure what to do next. Thanks for all your help.

Fllip and Rick: Have now set the address for eth0 to 10.0.0.1 and no DHCP. DNS is properly set, but still no joy with DSL as seen below. I am using rp-pppoe 2.8 version.
