Hi Landy, The first thing to check is the options file located I think /etc/ppp/options depending on your version of SuSE. If you do 'man pppd' it will list the options available. I would suggest you start with little or no options and try running ppp. Then add the options as required testing as you go. Otherwise you end up in a mess and nothing works. Listing of my settings in /etc/ppp/options ----------------------- # /etc/ppp/options noipdefault debug noauth crtscts lock modem passive asyncmap 0 nodetach idle 600 noipx ktune pap-max-authreq 50 pap-timeout 240 # ---<End of File>--- Also regarding /dev/modem this is a link to /dev/ttyS0 or /dev/ttyS1. I personally do not use this link as it stuffs up the lock files associated with /dev/ttyS? which can cause major problems with other comms programs. The owner of the /dev/ttyS? I think should be set to root:uucp, they are on my system. Regards, Graham Smith ---------------------------------- On 27-Feb-2001 landy Roman wrote:

also should /dev/modem be root.root or root.uucp
