I am getting a bit desperate and bit of hair are starting to fly.
Hi David,
I've seen alot of messages about segfaults with the new Apache. I assume you're running using the SuSE RPM apache-1.3.17? I think someone here suggested to upgrade all of your mod_xxx packages if you use the newer Apache. I hope this helps. If not I'm certain someone here can help more than me.
I have a similar problem here. Today I was trying to build a new WWW server to the ISP. I installed SuSE 7.0, updated all relevant packages but did not manage to put it to work with PHP4 (I've updated apache, mod_php4 and mod_ssl to the latest releases available at ftp.suse.com/.de). Then I removed apache 1.3.17, removed configuration files, installed apache 1.3.14 and the same problem occurred. Both apache 1.3.14 and 1.3.17 would run fine if started WITHOUT mod_php4, but both would failed if started with PHP4 support :( The only difference from what you reported is that I got no errors on the console after starting it, however, looking on /var/log/https/error_log I could find the following messages: [Thu Feb 15 18:09:08 2001] [notice] Apache/1.3.17 (Unix) (SuSE/Linux) PHP/4.0.3pl1 configured -- resuming normal operations [Thu Feb 15 18:09:16 2001] [notice] child pid 2981 exit signal Segmentation fault (11) [Thu Feb 15 18:09:20 2001] [notice] child pid 2982 exit signal Segmentation fault (11) ... [Thu Feb 15 18:09:27 2001] [notice] child pid 2988 exit signal Segmentation fault (11) [Thu Feb 15 18:11:16 2001] [notice] caught SIGTERM, shutting down ... [Thu Feb 15 18:35:57 2001] [notice] Apache/1.3.14 (Unix) (SuSE/Linux) PHP/4.0.3pl1 configured -- resuming normal operations [Thu Feb 15 18:36:05 2001] [notice] child pid 4407 exit signal Segmentation fault (11) [Thu Feb 15 18:36:06 2001] [notice] child pid 4408 exit signal Segmentation fault (11) ... [Thu Feb 15 18:36:09 2001] [notice] child pid 4415 exit signal Segmentation fault (11) Both apache versions would also run fine with mod_ssl and without mod_php4, therefore it looks like the problem is not within apache, but rather within mod_php4 itself. Tested with: Pentium II 350 MHz 256 MB RAM Mobo ASUS SuSE 7.0 apache 1.3.14 / 1.3.17 mod_php4-4.0.3pl1 mod_ssl-2.8.0-0 libc-2.1.3-190 Any ideas??? rgrds, Bráulio Gergull
