Re: [SLE] Linksys PC Card NIC

All,

I think the assumptions on the Linksys cards are based on the same
assumptions that other people might take against other brands ( D-Link, 3Com,
HP, iNTEL etc ) regarding cardbus cards. Unfortunately, the cardbus system is
laptop dependant, so a cb card that may work in one laptop does not
neccessarily have to work in another. This may lead to the conclusion of some
that a certain brand of card is no good, when it's only no good for that
particular laptop.

I usually try to point prople in the direction of 16-bit cards, specially if
they have to be used in more than one laptop/handheld, as they usually prove
less problematic. Of course, I try to remember to tell people about the
tradeoffs, mainly that 16-bit cards are somewhat slower than their cb
counterparts.

A rule of thumb when shopping for cb cards is: bring your laptop, and try
before you buy. See the card running in all the OS's you are going to use,
and see it running in all the devices you plan on using it in.
