As soon as your cable provider's customer base grows, it will be just
like a POTS system again. Their don't engineer those networks to
support the outrageous marketing claims they make.
Around here in the evening when most people are at home and online,
the cable provider is only about twice as fast a 56k modem.
It's not even worth the extra cost. Sure, in the daytime, I was able
to get downloads faster than a T1. But that doesn't help most people
who want to be online in the evening when everyone else is downloading
too.
