I spent the day on this old beast with Helix Gnome. There's been some nice work done with it, and as I mentioned in an earlier post, playing MP3's WORKS much better with the Gnome app. than with FreeAmp or anything else on KDE2, which seg. faults. :) I expect that Gnome will, and should eventually become as fine a well polished app. that KDE2 is, but it's NOT there yet. That said, I still think that SuSE should include it on 7.1. The install is TOTALLY painless over the Net. What ISN'T in Gnome that should be, is the various term. support at console. The Gnome term. is totally worthless when accessing via telnet to a server, like an RS6000 with AIX. Mouse movement isn't anywhere as smooth as in KDE2, and stretching any window in any direction is a bit of a hassle, as it frequently doesn't want to work properly. These are just a few of the many annoyances I found in Gnome, but then, nothing is perfect. :) Gnome deserves our support, because Linux is in part about choices, and we must always insure that we have them.
