Have you looked at the SuSE support database? If your card is
marked v. 4.0 or 4.1, you need a newer driver:

Unfortunately, I don't speak from experience. I have a v. 4.1 card
and have tried compiling from source obtained from Donald Becker's
website, but have run into "unresolved symbols". Maybe I'll have to
update to a newer kernel?
