Well, so soon into my linux distribution (2 weeks) and I have actually had to do that. The best way is to make a copy of it now while the system is stable ie. modules.conf.backup and when things go wrong you need to boot into the rescue mode and replace the corrupt version with your backup - or use vi to edit the file causing the problem. Here's what I did: Rescuing the System Use the boot floppy to boot with and then select recue system and use CD1 as the source to boot from. When done mount hda7 (root) as /mnt with 'mount /dev/hda7 /mnt' You can then use the 'vi' editor to change things but ut is better if you previously made a backup and then copy the backup over offending file.
