Hello Stephen, on Sunday, December 31, 2000 at 08:46:05 +0000, you sat in front of your keyboard and wrote:
I am planning on upgrading Igor, my tired Pentium (no number), next week.
What I've tentatively decided upon is the following:
AMD T-Bird 700 MHz processor DFI AK74-SC Socket A Motherboard Daytona 8MB Video Catrd with SIS 6236 Chip Set
Currently I'm running SuSEv4.6 on my two boxes and will must likely upgrade to SuSE v(wwhattever it may get to by then) as soon as they have KDE2 as part of the distribution.
I would appreciate comments, pro or con, on the hardware.
Thanks in advance.
I assume that you were talking of SuSE6.4 and SiS 6326 instead of SuSE4.6 and
SiS 6236, forgive this if I'm wrong.
I dunno for the mobo although you shouldn't have problems with it.
For the processor it's perfectly ok, but you probably have to upgrade your
kernel as the one with 6.4 may not recognize the T-Bird correctly.
I used to use a SiS6326 and I had no troubles using it as long as I set XFree
to use software cursor instead of hardware cursor.
Regards...
