Win 98 is the end of the line , all now boxes are getting linux on them , as once they are setup they are real stable , not of that reboot , and plug and play driver shuffle that changes everthing on you when you least expect it. I have yet to have a linux box go down on me. I had problems with windows boxes going south on me , each and every time I was out of town.
Of course, it's some kind of Murphy's law or something <g> Regarding Plug and Pray, I can't even get that in W2K. I have never had a nux box go down either.
Once thyy had to do payroll by had for twenty five emplyeesy using the tax charts , not a fun task. Matter of fact , If I throw in vmware I can toss windows aside completely as I need it for the payroll , every thing else I can move elswhere or re write our custom invioce tracking program which I can do in python if I can just finsh tthe darn book. I could probibly find an accounts payable module dome where that will work with linux. Only thing holding me back is the hardware. Moneydaance works nicely even on the p166 on linux. vmware needs some hosrepower.
Ya, VMware needs some push. I give it 128MB ram. works okay when I need it. Since I usually run just 1 or 2 apps in there, I suspend it rather then shutting Windows down, so it just loads to what I need right away. Good luck with your Python. Can you imagine when big companies ran payroll and invoicing all by hand, years ago.... Interesting about Moneydance. I have not used it, but will need to. Now, time to nuke hda W2k! <p> -- Best regards, Gary Today's thought: Chaos, panic, pandemonium - my work here is done.
