CD-RWs are very well supported under Linux. You can do whatever you want
with them.

If you really must have a combo drive, then I would recommend either a
Toshiba or a Ricoh drive. If burning CDs is more important, then I would
go with the Ricoh, but if reading is more your thing, then the Toshiba
is faster at reads. They're both high quality drives.

DVD video is not necessarily unsupported under linux... check out these
