Also, you can do the following in /etc/modules.conf if you built your
own kernel based on 2.2.17+ which now has the code to compile the emu10k1
sound modules.
#*****************************************************************************
# module : emu10k1.o Creative EMU10K1 drivers
# Also needed for SB Live
#
# Documentation available in /usr/src/linux/drivers/sound/emu10k1.c
# (search for MODULE_PARM) and /usr/src/linux/Documentation/sound/emu10k1.
# This chip is often used together with other sound hardware.
#
# Possible configuration :
alias char-major-14 emu10k1
# Uncomment the following if kernel is compiled with version info
# pre-install emu10k1 insmod soundcore
# post-remove emu10k1 rmmod soundcore
#*****************************************************************************
Which I've added just below the section dealing with the sb.o modules
and have been using since 2.2.14 with very nice results. No problems with
sound stuttering the way the software versions seem to do.
Also, be sure you comment out the following at the beginning of the
sound section of /etc/modules.conf
# alias char-major-14 off
# alias sound off
# alias midi off
