Subject: Reverse solution (Was: RE: [SLE] SuSE 7, VMware and XFree86 4.0)
Hi,
** I managed to get vm and xfree4.01 to work yesterday, but had a huge
** rigamorole trying to get the vmtools vga driver to work. it did
eventually
** ( theres a faq on the vmware site on the matter )
I've given up. I think it's a bug in the Voodoo 3 X server module.
Someone mentioned it on the XF devel mailing lists the other day.
** but after all the effort, i wasnt sure that it was particularly worth
the
** effort. I have a pIII700 and felt that using Flash4 was not a pleasant
** experience. also dreamweaver. and those are the progs i need windows
for.
I've actually started running things the other way round as I need to use
Dreamweaver, Fireworks, Flash and Quake 3 Arena a lot. SuSE runs in VMware
on top of Windows 2k. It's just as solid and it seems to work better than
2k does in VMware. Plus I get to use my Radeon which was getting a little
dusty on the `incompatible hardware' shelf...
I'm happy now! Also, by enabling IP forwarding on W2k and setting it as
the SuSE VM's gateway, I can access the Internet from Linux via an MS
Proxy server (nasty hack). Before anyone asks, the proxy server isn't
mine so I can't swap it for a dedicated SuSE box :(

As I said - it's probably my fault :o) Either that or the config is
too damn convoluted.
