Hi all
I've seen this problem come up a couple of times, but I've never seen a solution that works for me.
I'm running Suse 7.0 and I've been trying to connect up to the internet using kppp. I can do this as root, but when I log on with my user account I get the infamous "pppd died unexpectedly" message.
My /etc/ppp/options file is empty. The permissions on /usr/sbin/pppd are:
-rwsr-sr-x 1 root dialout 155364 Aug 2 19:19 pppd
and my user account is a member of the dialout group.
I emailed Suse support about this, and their three word solution was "Try using kinternet". Now, that may well work (I haven't tried it yet) but that's not the point - I want to know why kppp isn't working!
Any of you got any ideas?
----------------------------------------------------- You should look at the support database report "kppp not working in SuSE 7.0" at: http://sdb.suse.de/sdb/en/html/randall_kppp_suid.html It explains why kppp is disabled. It appears Wvdial is the preferred dialer. <p> Cheers, Jonathan
