I'm running Suse 7.0 and I've been trying to connect up to the internet using kppp. I can do this as root, but when I log on with my user account I get the infamous "pppd died unexpectedly" message.
I emailed Suse support about this, and their three word solution was "Try using kinternet". Now, that may well work (I haven't tried it yet) but that's not the point - I want to know why kppp isn't working!
In SuSE 7 they set kppp not to use suid. Supposedly this is a security risk. I think making it so kppp won't work for regular users is not really a solution. The knowledge base did have an article saying to put your user name and password in pap-secrets, but that made no difference for me. So I maxed out the permissions on kppp, including suid, and it works for me as user now. *************************************************** Powered by SuSE Linux 7.0 Professional KMail 1.0.29.2 Bryan S.
