I was running an old box with win + sygate for internet sharing in my home network. Well, the ISP decided to change the connection to EnterNet 300 MTS PPPoE ( something like that ). I managed to connect to internet with my linux box, running suse 7, and downloaded that MTS Alcatel soft stuff. Well, it took me 2 days to get things working especially that virtual MTS pppoe nic card, crashing everything down. Even had to download a later version of Sygate (4). Standing to my resolution not to spend one more penny on win, I would appreciate some brain-help before setting up my little network. This is my network : adsl nic 1 : dhcpclient server clients 1......4 nic 2 : 192.168.0.1 192.168.0.2.....5 255.255.255.0 255.255.255.0 This is the windows configuration : Server : nic card for internet is a DLink 530. Connection = DSL via alcatel ADSL modem ( windows : IP=10.0.0.1 mask = 255.255.255.0 Gateway = empty DNS : host=pppoe domain=pppoe search = 195.238.2.22 and 195.238.2.21 ) The virtual MTS nic gives : IP : obtain automatic DNS = same as DLink. nic card for LAN is a RTL 8029AS. ( windoos : IP = 192.168.0.1 mask = 255.255.255.0 Gateway = empty DNS = same as DLink ). Client : for example my Linux box : nic = Dlink 530 ( windows : IP=192.168.0.3 mask =255.255.255.0 Gateway = 192.168.0.1 DNS = same as DLink server but could be 192.168.0.1 accordingly to sygate notes ) ( I have 4 clients 192.168.02--->05 ) My questions are now : assuming DSL connection + client config is no problem 1. How do I setup the server : - dhcpclient for nic1 - DNS as mentionned above - nic2 : RTL : IP = 192.168.0.1 mask = 255.255.255.0 ?????????: Gateway : empty or 0.0.0.0 or 192.168.0.1 The gateway is my main problem for routing here. 2. Are there some more things to do here ( IP settings )? - host table ? route table ? resolving ? 3. masquerading : will the following work ? ipchains -A forward -s 192.168.0.0/16 -b -j MASQ 4. Do I need a firewall ? or is ipchains ok ? If yes which firewall ( easy to setup ) 5. Do I need a proxy ??? Really thank you in advance filip.
