i have a toshiba satellite laptop that i have run SuSE on now for several years. i never really bother with network setups as the default loopback fit my needs. i have added samba to allow printing on our W95 network at work and all works fine. the PROBLEM: i recently needed to net boot another unix box and i am trying to get arp/rarp to work correctly on the laptop, (which is currently running 6.4)........if i type "arp -s theUnixbox.domain.name 08:00:5f:21:7a" i get an error message "theUnixbox.domain.name:Host lookup failure" i HAVE added ip address and host name for the box in /etc/hosts do i need DNS for this to work? shouldn't /etc/resolve.conf look to /etc/hosts first before trying a nameserver? i have tried adding "arp" to the ifconfig line for eth0 in /etc/rc.conf -no luck thanks, don -- -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/support/faq
