Hello All. I know this topic is a bit off topic but I need some help.
I am relatively new to the Linux OS, and so far I love what I see. I especially like the openness of the developers in this community and I am excited to be a part of something big. :)
With the recent release of several new Office Applications, Linux is now becoming a real choice for the desktop. In my office however we cannot switch to Linux mainly because of the serious lack of CAD software. Nothing in the Linux arena can even compete with AutoCAD. :(
For the over year now I have been involved in a new technology called IntelliCAD. IntelliCAD is an AutoCAD clone that has unrivaled compatibility with AutoCAD like nothing else on the market. It is an amazing technology, but it is for windows. :(
Good news however, the IntelliCAD source code was opened up last year under what has been called the IntelliCAD Technology Consortium (referred to as the ITC) , and the results have been amazing. Under a special license agreement any user can become a member and download the source code for free. The limitation is that only commercial members, those who pay $5,000 a year, can distribute the binaries.
But I believe in IntelliCAD and believe that it can be ported to Linux and be done so in a fair amount of time. The GUI would need to be rewritten in either QT or Gtk and the back-end is pretty much vanilla C++.
I am writing because I am looking for volunteer C++ developers who would be willing to help out on this project. Anyone who has some good knowledge on any of these areas (CAD, GUI, Linux, etc.) can be of value. At the moment a discussion is taking place at the ITC forum as to the toolkit that should be used for the GUI and for a place to host the cvs server. I myself do not work for the ITC and am just a volunteer who has decided to advocate the Linux port. I am new to C++ but I want to learn it better just so I can be actively involved in this new port.

Even if you cannot help with the programming end of things maybe you have some valuable information that can help us in these defining moments as we make decisions on how to do the port to Linux.
