Hi,
I know this has been asked before, but I found
all the old emails I have saved, but the answer
still eludes me.

I'm trying to assign mutiple ip numbers to eth0.
I'm using kernel 2.2.16.

I installed package iproute2, but when I run the
command

ip addr show

I get an error:
"Cannot send dump request: Connection refused"

My eth0 is up and running.

Does anyone know what I'm missing or what
I don't have started?

Also I tried to use the method described in the
how-tos involving using

ifconfig eth0:0 192.168.0.5

and I get errors
SIOCSIFADDR: No such device
SIOCSIFFLAGS: No such device.

Any clues appreciated.
