Well the answer is in the german support database. The rough translation by babel.altavista.com is also enclosed below. Please check the german site for clarifications as Deutch -> Engish may be wrong Hope it may help someone http://sdb.suse.de/sdb/de/html/sdummer_alice.html SuSE Linux : Version 7.0 Symptom They installed SuSE Linux 7,0 and at the time of the termination of the installation for logging in as " roots " were requested. They do not know the password however; during the installation you were not requested to create a root password. A cause They selected the package " alice " (series ap) with the installation. This package sets - it incorrect-proves - with the installation a root password, why you are not asked later by YaST any longer for it. The password reads " blank ". Solution Log in with the password " blank" as root. Then absolutely modify your password, by them the instruction passwd input. Note: With subsequent installing of " alice " does not occur the phenomenon - it is, the password entry for roots in the shadow file is empty (which certainly never the case should be). -- Togan Muftuoglu toganm@turk.net 100% MS FREE Absolutely no component of Microsoft was used in the generation or posting of this e-mail.
