I have SB 1024, as well. I loaded emu10k1 by entering this line in /sbin/init.d/boot.local: modprobe emu10k1. In this way, I've experienced the best sound, so far, with 6.3, 6.4 and 7.0 Pro. In KDE, the sound is perfect, but when starting a KDE2 session I can't get any sound either. I also wellcome any advice. KDE2 looks interesting and it would be sad if the sound issue should be a reason for avoiding it.
