This is because Netscape screwed up and stopped getting displayed but yet was still running. You need to kill netscape and the restart it. You can do this..if you are running Gnome you can cd into your .gnome-desktop directory and make a file called killnetscape with vi...so in other words do this.. 1. Open an xterm and cd into .gnome-desktop 2. type vi killnetscape 3. In this file put ... #!/bin/bash killall -9 netscape rm ~/.netscape/lock 4. Save the file 5. make it executable by typing chmod +x killallnetscape 6. Tell Gnome to rescan desktop directory.. After you have told gnome to do this an icon should appear on your desktop with the same name. You can click on this and it will kill netscape and remove the lock file so you can cleanly restart netscape. 4. 4. Save the file 5. make it executable by typing chmod +x killallnetscape 6.
