As with most things, it depends ;)
If you are running something like a dedicated news servers, where there are
likely to be lots of little text files, then it may be to your benefit to
format the disk where the news spool would reside to have 1k or 2k inodes.
On the flip side, if you don't need such small inodes, the theory went that you
could incur a lot of overhead as the disk tries to read 2-4 times as many
inodes.
In otherwords, would you save space? Possible, but probably not enough to be
worth the trouble.
