Hello,
Like it was said below, the option "enable/disable"
can be found in yast, under the base network
configuration.
Yast -> Sytem Administration -> Network Configuration
->
Network Base Configuration
You will then have a configuration screen. On the
left will be device numbers, 0-3. Your 0 will already
be there. Toggle to device 1 -> F5 to select
"ethernet" -> F6 to configure IP address -> F4 to
activate - F10 to save and exit. Then SuSEconfig will
run. After that do:
/sbin/init.d/network restart
and you should see your new device come up. If not,
it's time to look at the files /etc/rc.config and
/etc/conf.modules.

I helped a friend do this and we had problems until we saw the option to disable/enable the nic card. Check that out. It gave us a runaround for a while.
