It' not easy, believe me. I got it in because one of our
departments creates software for Solaris, and NT couldn't get in
on CD (it downcasts all filenames).
First of all, everything here is NT (from desktops to
mailservers). Except of course development, databases and
security, that's all located on Sun Servers with Sun
workstations.
Initially, a lot of money was spent on special sofware for an NT
box... than even more money was spent trying to use CD writer
software on solaris (by another department).
I mentioned I could do this on a Linux, and got assigned a very
old Pentium 133 machine.
After installing it, it became used for several other things,
like a webserver, ftp server, security scanner... and it still
writes CD's.
Now, I'm able to get Linux accepted as a solution, only when NT
is not possible at all. Than even with great resistance...
Management seems to have the notion that something that is free
is automatically bad...
They resiste SAMBA (on Linux and Solaris), but are prepared to
buy TAS (a commercial SMB server) for Solaris...
Go figure...
I wish you a great deal of luck, you'll need it, as will I.
Kind regards
Guy

Hi There Guy
Can you tell me how to go about persuading so called "in the
knowledge"
managers that Linux is much better than Winblows. - They all
seem to be
blinkered in this respect. I am in charge of Internal IT for
this company
and I would welcome any ideas from anyone on this subject
Thanks
