the webster tapped away at the keyboard with:
I was fiddling around in /etc/passwd and by mistake i added a ' before the root uid.. so now it says 'root .. And when i try to su myself to root it just doesnt work.. wrong password. Im using "" around 'root because otherwise i just get unbalanced quotes. I need help fast, because I have no fysical access to the box what so ever for a long time ahead..
Try /bin/su all by itself. If it says "/bin/su: user root does not exist" Then you will probably need physical access. Check for any users with UID of zero for which you might know the password. Other options include exploiting known security holes. Which may be much easier than you might like. -- Bernd Felsche - Innovative Reckoning Perth, Western Australia -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/support/faq
