From what I've read on this list reiser seems stable and is the way to go. However, I haven't gotten quite as warm and fuzzy feeling about software RAID. Should I be wary or go for it?
In the last 10 years I've had only 2 drives go bad but both were within the last 6 months which has made me hyper about drive failures. I want to go to bed at night knowing that even if power goes out or a hard drive fails I can still easily recover. Oh, and BTW, I _do_ have a UPS but no tape backup.
Well, I'd invest in a tape backup. With ReiserFS the UPS isn't as necessary as a good, reliable backup solution (if even with software or hardware RAID).
I've also just had disk troubles and it took about an hour of manual checking to get it running. I'm still finding suprises. I've looked at tapes and there are several choices. Which are recommended? DLT, travan, QIC1000, JAZZ, Colorado.... I have a few machines so was thinking of an external parallel port device. My main machine has 15 G on SCSI drives, the other 5 machines are all smaller. I'm using both internal ports on the 2940 card so I can't use the external port. I've also used the 5.25" bays on the main machine. -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/support/faq
