FWIW I recently did a "just about everything" install of 6.4 on a new machine. It took ages to copy everything onto the disk, then didn't work properly. I didn't investigate the problems. It just seemed that there were so many libraries, utilities and heck knows what else that they all seemed to get in each other's way. I very quickly gave up, wiped the disk, and did my usual install: pick the default SuSE installation with the KDE desktop and the development stuff, get that going, then add more packages as I find I need them. If you're planning to start again I'd recommend this route (or a version of it that suits your requirements). It's more stable, more secure, and when you get problems you (and the people who try to help you) can see the wood for the trees.
2) Since I am having so many problems with 6.4, perhaps I should reinstall? Can this be done without wiping out everything?
