[SLE] KDE default creation permissions (umask functionality)

I have umask set to 022 (in .bashrc), and if I create a directory
manually from an xterm, it's made correctly with mode 755. But when
I use kfm to "graphically" create a directory, it's made with mode 700.
Where do I tell KDE (kfm?) what I want for its umask, or whatever KDE
calls it? I can find no setting for this functionality in any of the
config boxes I've looked at, or in any of the ~/.kde/... files.
FWIW, I'm using kfm 1.167.2.21, from SuSE 6.3.
TIA,
Jim
