Hello all, I have just upgraded my suse 6.4 with the XFree86 version 4.0 from the suse download site. That went well. However, when I install the new Nvidia kernel and glx modules the X display goes blank and locks out completely and I have to hard reboot. I compiled and installed the two parts of the driver as per the instructions and there were no errors. One worrying point though is this: In the conf.modules (or modules.conf) the line 'alias char-major-195 NVdriver' exists, but if I run lsmod the driver is not listed. If I then run modprobe NVdriver, it loads perfectly. But X still locks out when I run startx. I have included the 'Load "glx" ' in the "Modules" section of XF86config and have changed the ' Driver "nvidia" ' in the display section. So, in summary I have followed the instructions and recieved no errors, however X always locks out when I start it. I looked in the .X.err file in my home dir and there are no video errors there. only font path errors. Can anyone advise me on how to solve this problem??
