Hi,
Most places aren't going to give you root access to their servers, probably the only way you are going to get this is if you have a dedicated server owned by you, but hosted by the isp's bandwidth (co-location hosting)
I have found one ISP's offering Shell accounts in the UK (business opportunity for someone there <g>)(www.uksolutions.co.uk/ukshells/) The only reason I need root access it to update "services" and "hosts.conf" when I install the database server (Interbase). I only need to add one line to each file, and that is the end of my root access ever. But they say no, even after offering them £50 for what is a two minute job. I have had a couple of 'private' offers offline, so I am investigating these options. I would rather give my money to somebody who wants it!
