I recently bought a new PC. 800Mhz AMD Athlon, Creative GeForce 256 DDR graphics card, 128Mb of 133Mhz RAM, 30Gb hd unformatted. I have the SuSe 6 CD set, and a single SuSe evaluation CD. My hard disk is partitioned as follows: hda3: 1Gb, mount / hda1: Windows 98 hda2: extended hda5: 3Gb, mount /home swap: ???Mb (i know this is weird, still messing with it) When I booted from either CD 1 or the evaluation, bad things happened. The initial colour-text-mode splash screen appeared, with a LILO boot: prompt. This nearly immediately started launching a kernel from the CD. Boom... here's the last line of good output plus all the error trace. mtrr: v1.35 (19990512) general protection fault: 0000 CPU: 0 EIP: 0010:[<c01065e3>] EFLAGS: 00010282 eax: c01065cc ebx: c009dfb8 ecx: c0000085 edx: 00000015 esi: c009dfb4 edi: c009dfb3 ebp: 00000000 esp: c009df7c ds: 0018 es: 0018 ss: 0018 Process Swapper (pid: 1, process nr: 1, stackpage=c009d000) Stack: c0106000 00000000 00000010 c01077db 00000000 c009dfb8 c009dfb4 c009dfb3 00000002 c0257fd4 c0106000 c0257fd4 c0106000 00000000 c01069a2 000000a0 c01069bd 00000f00 c0259165 c024305c c023ce54 c0258d57 00000f00 c0257fd4 Call trace: [<c0106000>] [<c01077db>] [<c0106000>] [<c0106000>] [<c01069a2>] [<c01069bd>] [<c0106000>] [<c010615f>] [<c0107bfb>] Code: 0f 32 83 7c 24 18 01 75 02 89 d0 89 c1 81 e1 00 00 fe ff 89 Now, I never thought I'd have to handle GPF's on Linux... does anyone know what's going on here? I've installed Redhat 6.0 and 6.2 successfully since then.
