[SLE] Can IDE DVDROM be emulated as a SCSI device?

Hello Linux folks. I'm thinking about buying a cheap IDE DVDROM but I'm not sure if I can emulate it as a SCSI device for using it with Xcdroast to burn CDs on another IDE CDRW. Are there any particular issues to configure DVDROM with Linux? Thank in advance for any help.
