For what it's worth, I live in Toronto and have bought SuSE for the last couple of years at the University of Toronto Book Store. Of course this is the US version (without the encryption stuff). I believe they get their copies from a US distributor. I also believe they will ship anywhere in Canada but you should check their website to be sure. Personally, I'll pass on the 7.0 version unless there are some significant advantages to upgrading. I've always bought each and every release for the last couple of years but was very disappointed in 6.4. There were too many things broken when it was shipped and some were never fixed that I'm aware of ie. susefax or sendfax. Frankly, there wasn't a compelling reason for me to upgrade and I now realize that I just wasted my $$$ on 6.4. I only wound up installing on one test system and kept my main systems running 6.3. This time I'll wait for a solid release that has the features I need before buying. Gerry On Wed, 2 Aug 2000, Arlen Carlson wrote:

Another good question is:
If the release on English it's going to delay to much time to arrive to USA, why can we buy it directly from SuSE Germany (of course on English) ?
This is because the English version is different from the US version - stupid crypto and patent laws require us to leave off some packages from the US distribution.

OK, so there are 2 English versions namely the restrictive US English and the complete UK? English version. As a Canadian who is not subject to US law how do I get a copy of the non-US English version?
The only source of real SuSe Linux into Canada at this time appears to be from the US as SuSe is practically invisible in Canada. I have a database of just under 100 local retailers in my area and none of them stock SuSe and the 4 national mail order chains I have dealt with also do not carry SuSe. The Canadian companies listed at suse.com appear to be CD burners (1 or 2 CDs, no manuals). This means that to get SuSe, I and presumably other Canadians need to order from the US and now I find that this is a crippled version.
Any way to get the non-US English version?

I might add the the Canadian company cdromshop.com also only supplies the US version.
