Hi SuSE! I recently tried to use Yast2 to install 6.4 (from PCPlus DVD). No go ( but I was able to use yast, so no _real_ troubles...:) Booting from dvd ... 1. I have a SupraExpress 56e PRO modem. If this device is turned on then yast2 does: hardware detection ok load 49480K into ramdisk ok (... modem lights flash ...) X server starts ... and fails. I get the blue/red screen of death: "An error occurred during installation" On virtual terminal 3 I see some error messages: /lib/YaST2/bin/YaST2: line 162 60 sementation fault y2bignfat "$modulename" $moduleargs qt -T ... blah blah blah qt: fatal IO error: client killed /lib/YaST2/bin/YaST2: kill (56) no such pid /lib/YaST2/bin/Yast2.start return code is 35584 (errno=2) 2. If the modem is turned off we get a little further - Yast2 screen proper comes up, says "Initialising..." near the top, and the progress bar "Checking system" gets to 50% then hangs. Everything hangs. The access light on my scsi drive is on continuously. I have to hit the reset switch. 3. If I disconnect the scsi drive and the modem then yast2 starts ok. 4. After using yast to install 6.4 on the scsi disk, when I log on and type 'yast2' as root (at the console), then the scsi disk again goes immediately into lockup, and I can get out only via the reset switch. My hardware is: PIII 667, ASUS+VIA motherboard, 128M ram, hda = IDE disk, hdb = IDE disk, hdc = DVD rom, sda = SCSI disk via Tekram DC390. * Is the SCSI problem due to the number of drives ... ? * And what gives with the modem? * Is it legitimate to invoke yast2 from the console, after installation? brian -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/support/faq
