What is SuSE's policy for the creation of custom log files? Is there a list somewhere else that needs to be appended to? Is there a way to change the size limit of the file before it is rotated?

Take a look at /etc/logfiles. It's the file were log files permissions and
maximum sizes are defined. You can add here as many additionnal logfiles as
you want.
