Have you considered rsync? You can run an unprivileged rsync server
with custom authentication (i.e. your own username domain space with
passwords). The worst damage that could be done is to the filespace
that's defined by the rsync server.

Unfortunately, it's not encrypted AFAIK.

You may be able to set up a port on the router to connect straight
to the corresponding rsync server port.
