Fetchmail dumps mail off at the smtp port (25) of your box; sendmail (which you
probably have installed and running by default) takes it the rest of the way to the user's
mail spool under the /var directory structure (/var/spool/mail/<username>). Pine by
default looks in the user's spool for mail, but can be reconfigured under its setup /
configuration menu for any inbox you like. You may also directly configure Pine for your
ISP's smtp address for outgoing mail in the same menu, and it and sendmail (or
whatever) will get the stuff sent without further fuss.
You may wish to consult the man page for fetchmail for its various command-line
options. You may also wish to consult the fetchmail homepage (everything has a
homepage): http://www.tuxedo.org/~esr/fetchmail/index.html for other general
information. And, finally, it wouldn't hurt to have a read-through of :
http://www.linux.org/help/ldp/howto/Mail-Administrator-HOWTO.html
...since with Linux just because there's only one of you doesn't mean you're not a mail
administrator.
Happy electronic postality.
