Hi Togan, sounds like an interesting job for long winter nights. ;-) Just read Nicolas post on it, didn't know that rools like xls2csv exist. I am a bit uncertain on this converting, due to Character sets, extra spaces in data fields etc. But thats a matter of trial and error. I would import the stuff into SO and konvert it into the spreadsheet and start from there. Recently, I did a similar job at work -comparing two lists, and on finding the entry in the main list I added some data from list2 to it- I did that in Excel VBA, since I cannot use proper tools at work (in a double sense... ;-))
Well I had the first intention to get it imported to So however SO does not recognize Turkish character sets. So I end up having either ?? marks or the characters are chopped of. I normally use Applix 4.4.2 althogh I can import MS office documents with no problem this time it does not work for the following reasons These two files were created by my wife under Windows SE international with PAN europen character set. There are two different Turkish character sets used by windows either Windows CP 1254 or Windows ISO Turkish. They are both different and I guess these were created with CP 1254. This causes the applixware problem. Therefore SO and Applixware could be the ending products but I need to get the files converted to somehow meaningfull format. I read catdoc man and looks interesting (It was in the Suse CD's good job Suse)I need to read more and understand how to find a way to convert to different charsets. yes I agree could be an intersting long winter project but as usual I needed it yesterday.
