I'm not on the Internet usually (I receive my email through UUCP). Let me
save a note for some next Internet session. Thanks for the IceWM pointer.

I peeked in the FAQ installed here with the `icewm' package (let me see... it
says "in its version of Monday, 1999/09/27, 22:52 UTC") and found no direct
reply to any of my two questions. Did I overlook something? Participating
to a mailing list usually requires a lot of involvement. One has to
read mail for a while just to become familiar with the gang and spirit.
For the usual cases[1], I much prefer direct contact with maintainers,
this is more economical, and usually works quite well on the average[2].

----------
[1] The unusual cases for me is Linux, either as a kernel or as a
distribution, as a lot of people are involved in each of these two aspects.

[2] Yet, for a few years now, I'm observing a growing pressure to make
things difficult. People now ought to CVS-fetch blended mixes of unstable
versions of many inter-dependent packages, have to participate to a flurry
of mailing lists, and are sadly forced into very flashy but extremely poor
(usually Web-centric) emailing devices. And this for the dubious right
of being listened to, while reporting problems, by bug-tracking systems
and committees, instead of by human beings. I once knew easier times! :-)
