IMNSHO, from slowest to fastest:
Enlightement: Big, slow, but ultra-configurable. My nephew's wm of choice. Sawfish: Also ultra-configurable, but not as comprehensive as E. IceWM: Reasonably light, fully GNOME-Compliant. XFCE: Lightest of the pack, but still slower than Ice (?). WindowMaker: THE Fastest GNOME window manager; probably the best balance
If XFCE is slower than IceWM then you've got those windowmanagers in the wrong order, Jon! I tried WindowMaker a while ago and I really like the way it looks. IceWM doesn't hold a candle to it as far as looks go. However, I use IceWM because as far as using the keyboard goes there's not much guesswork involved. It's all very logical to me and that's nice because if it's possible I don't even want to touch the mouse. The layout is also very logical - everything is right there where it's supposed to be. On top of that it's also very stable (never froze up with me) and it's very fast. Yet, despite all that it's getting kind of boring!
And for flavor:
Blackbox: NOT GNOME-Compliant, but who cares? It's FAST! I just use the apps anyway ;).
I don't kow what to make of this one. I did run it yesterday but it certainly wasn't love at first sight... -- Yatsen Ng yatsenng@casema.net It said "Needs Windows 98 or better." So I installed Linux... -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/
