[SLE] Cracklin' Sounds

I've installed OSS in my SuSE 6.2 box and it plays sounds just fine.
However, when I play MP3's (slow 56k connection), I get these crackling
noises. When I have Netscape running (after clicking on Lo-fi playfrom
MP3.com) and I toggle Netscape's scroll bar on the right, the crackling
noises seems to disappear. Is there any configuration change that I need to
make to get rid of these noises?
